What Trichology.com is, and what the Directory is
Trichology is the paramedical science that studies the structure, function, and diseases of the human hair and scalp. It was born in London in 1902. For more than a century, the work has lived in scattered clinics, academic papers, and a handful of professional societies — never in one public, trustworthy home.
Trichology.com is the publisher. It exists to consolidate the field into one evidence-based institution: a Journal that documents what works, a Library that explains it in plain language, and the Directory that records who has been verified to practise.
The Trichology Professional Directory (short name: Trichology Professional Directory) is the independent, privately-published reference for credential, identity, and practice standards. The search you are using on providers.trichology.com queries that public Directory directly.

Every record in the Trichology Professional Directory passes through the same six-step pipeline before it goes public.

Application
A practising trichologist submits credentials, identity documents, and practice details through /apply on providers.trichology.com.

Manual credential review
Our review team checks every application by hand against World Trichology Society (WTS) standards. No bots, no auto-imports. Typical turnaround is two business days.

Identity & practice verification
We confirm the applicant is who they say they are and that the practice is real, reachable, and consistent with the credentials submitted.

Publication as a Verified Professional
Approved professionals are published in the Directory as Verified Professionals — free, permanent, and renewed annually to keep the record current.

Optional upgrade to Verified+ Trichologist
Verified Professionals can elect Verified+ Trichologist visibility for featured placement, patient offers, articles, and video. Verification status itself never costs money — only the enhanced-visibility layer does.

Optional Medical Trichologist designation
Verified professionals who perform medically-supervised procedures (for example microneedling) can be designated Medical Trichologists when linked to a Verified Medical Director. The link is enforced at the data layer — the system will not accept a Medical Trichologist designation unless the supervising Medical Director is already verified.
Recognition classes
The Directory uses three recognition classes. Verification status is always free; only the enhanced-visibility layer of Verified+ Trichologist is paid.

Medical Trichologists & Medical Director supervision
Some trichology professionals perform procedures that fall under medical supervision — for example, scalp microneedling. The Directory recognises this with the Medical Trichologist designation, which can only be granted when the professional is linked to a Verified Medical Director (a separately verified MD or DO).
When both records are in place, the public profile shows a green Medical Director Supervised badge alongside the standard Verified / Verified+ badges, naming the supervising physician and their credentials.
Integrity guardrail. The link between a Medical Trichologist and a Medical Director is enforced at the database level by a trigger. If the Medical Director is not already verified in the Directory, the system refuses to save the designation — there is no path for an unverified supervising physician to appear next to a Medical Trichologist.

Patients search by city, condition, or specialty. Results come straight from the Directory — they are not advertisements.
Read a verified profile
Each profile shows the professional's recognition class (Verified or Verified+), credentials, and any Medical Director supervision badge where applicable.
Send a consultation request
Requests go directly to the professional's inbox and dashboard. We do not sell, resell, or syndicate patient contact information.

Editorial standards
Articles in the Library and the Trichology Journal are written or reviewed by practising, WTS-credentialed trichologists before publication. Author credentials are disclosed on every piece. We don't accept paid editorial placement, and sponsored content — when it exists — is clearly labeled.
Trichology.com is free for patients and free for verified professionals. No payment buys verification, fake reviews, or the ability to hide legitimate negative feedback. Verified professionals can optionally enhance their visibility within the Directory as Verified+ Trichologists — see Directory classes.
Founded by
William Gaunitz, WTS
The Trichology Professional Directory and Trichology.com were founded by William Gaunitz, WTS — a certified trichologist and member of the World Trichology Society who has been pioneering natural hair regrowth treatments since 2002. Trained in the United Kingdom, France, and Australia, William is also the founder of Advanced Trichology and the Evolution Hair Loss Institute.
The Directory is his effort to give the field a public, evidence-based home — and to hold every Directory record, article, and standard on the site to the same clinical rigor he brings to his own practice.
